Molly is one of the main characters of Lumberjanes. She is known to be a skilled archer, having been the only girl in the Roanoke Cabin to earn the Robyn Hood badge, but ultimately will always angle for peace in the situation, for example, petting a three eyed fox in the middle of a fight and making friends with Bubbles on the first day of camp, a raccoon that sleeps on her head. She also enjoys solving puzzles, greek mythology, and knitting. While she seems to be insecure about life at home, she is fiercely committed to her friends and always prepared for adventures in the forest. This foils her girlfriend Mal's confidence about life at home and fear around parts of the forest, and they complement each other through the comics to help each other with each. Over time Molly grows more and more connected to the woods and interested in the purpose of the Lumberjanes, even making dangerous deals to get to stay at camp longer and away from her home life.
Appearance[]
Molly is tall, pale, and wears her light blonde hair in a long braid with bangs that swoop to both sides. She wears a green baseball tee, cargo shorts, red hi-tops, and a raccoon hat (which is later revealed to be a living raccoon named Bubbles). In Faire and Square, she is shown wearing a costume resembling her usual color scheme. She is white.
Personality[]
Molly is very intelligent and is good at puzzles. She also knows a lot about Greek mythology and history, and takes up knitting and sewing, making Mal a band patch at one point. Molly is often a leader from the back, comforting others or solving puzzles. She is curious about the camp and spends time with the Bear woman, who Mal and Rosie distrust, trying to learn about how she could stay in the forest past the summer. She is also good with animals and adults, and though she can be a source of stability for others, she can bottle up her own emotions, causing her to be reckless.
Molly is a skilled archer, but being shy, she sometimes worries that she doesn't contribute enough to the group in the first arc. However, it is revealed that she has a head for word games and puzzles, and likes to read, loves history, and has the second-most patches of anyone, belying her experience. While Jo or April take the lead and forge ahead, Molly will watch the back of the group, preferring to look after Mal (often anxious), or Ripley (often distracted). She has a raccoon companion named Bubbles whom she wears as a hat and has a mutual crush on Mal. She has a rocky relationship with her family, particularly her mother, who's overly critical and wants her to conform, as shown in a dream sequence where Molly's mother pushes her into a box with a stereotypical girl outline and won't listen to Molly as she tells her she can't fit. At the camp, however, Molly can be herself and over the course of the story she builds confidence in her new friendships and skills. She strongly prefers camp over her family, as she has made much better memories there. This has even led her to trust a shadowy figure and put the whole camp in danger.
Her skills are archery, history, anagrams, a little bit of science (Issue 23), mythology, D&D ("The Moon Is up"), astronomy, and accordion ("The Moon Is Up"). Molly sometimes writes fanfiction of Greek and Roman mythology.
She's the most comfortable around Mal, who she readily talks to for encouragement. The two are very physically affectionate with each other and can often be seen holding hands or with their arms around each other.
As confirmed via one of the anagrams from the first story arc, she is a lesbian ("Manlessly Abnormal Ideal" to "Mal and Molly are lesbians").
